WHO's Keith Murphy will honor us by serving as the Grand Marshall of the 2010 Saint Patrick's Day Parade!

In Des Moines, as in many other U.S. cities, we recognize March 17th (Saint Patrick’s Day) with a parade (1 of nearly 300 in the nation), the ‘wearing of the green’, and in some places. . . green beer (they really add green coloring to it). Other cities like Chicago have gone as far as dying rivers green to mark the holiday of Ireland’s Patron Saint. The biggest observance of all is, of course, in the Irish Republic. Almost all businesses, with the exception of restaurants and pubs, close on the 17th of March. Being a religious holiday, many attend mass, where it is the traditional day for offering prayers for missionaries throughout the world, before the serious celebrating begins.
